Annual Certification of Biological Safety Cabinets

To reduce the risks associated with infectious materials and to prevent the contamination of research materials, and in accord with the recommendations of the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and National Institutes of Health, all Biological Safety Cabinets (BSCs) are to be certified at least annually.

Environmental Health and Safety staff will label and date any BSCs not certified within the past twelve months: "WARNING: Cabinet is not certified for infectious materials or contamination control". Upon re- certification the label may be removed.
.
Certification services can be obtained through ENVservices which currently charges a special “contract price” of $165 per unit. ENV is among several area companies with accreditation from the NSF to perform this service. Click here for a listing of all accredited vendors
